Smart Parent/Smart Child is being written in response to ongoing, innumerable requests from our current and former parents as well as a commitment on our part to reach as many parents as possible.
Most parents today are dealing with a demanding and stressful job market, family lives to manage, homes to maintain, very limited family and community
support, a medical profession that is not well trained in child development areas, and expert print and technical resources based primarily on clinical observation and limited contact.
Parents need loving, practical, action driven, proven guidelines that they can trust and be able to follow even in their hectic worlds. They will see immediate results and gain the understanding that there will be long-term benefits.
Smart Parent/Smart Child is a totally unique publication. The only publication addressing the importance of the planning stage of parenthood, and the relationship and values of the parents, with its primary objective to educate the parent, so the relationship between parent and child is successful and rewarding. Smart Parent/Smart Child eBook Phyllis Anka Cynthia Anka Reviews
This book is wonderful. Phyllis has helped teach an entire generation of kids how to be happy and well-adjusted. I have seen first hand the incredible children that come out of her daycare. She treats children with love and respect and they in turn treat her with love and respect. You would be amazed at how good these children are at conflict resolution, sharing and expressing themselves--better than many adults I know. There is a ton of useful information in this book.
Please don't listen to the negative reviews. They are based on a single issue that so many women for some reason are so fierce and judgmental about--breast feeding. My guess is they saw the word "formula" and took to the internet to try to discredit Phyllis. What a shame.
I have never written a review of a book before, but I feel so passionately about Smart Parent Smart Child that I wanted to give my opinion. The book is an incredible resource for good parents. It truly helps a family raise independent, well rested, well fed kids!!!! I continually return to certain parts of the book when I am having issues with any of my 3 children and I always find excellent suggestions. Cynthia Anka has helped our family in numerous ways over the years, and I feel very lucky to know her personally. And I have pretty great kids (most of the time!) because of all of Cynthia's help and support. This book is fantastic and I highly recommend it.
The philosophies in this book saved our life. We were also fortunate to receive personalized help from Cynthia Anka, one of the authors, and I don't know where we'd be without her. Our baby was hardly sleeping by the third week, but once we started putting these ideas to practice, our baby started sleeping through the night. By one month he was sleeping 6 hours a night, and it increased until he was three months old and sleeping 12 hours a night. The ideas are basic, but they are magical. When everyone is getting sleep, they are less likely to get sick--which means a healthier household in general. We can't say enough great things about the ideas in this book.
This book is the perfect roadmap to best guide you from day one of your child's birth. I have relied on Cynthia's expert knowledge of child development and practices to guide me through the first 2 months since my babies arrival and as a result, I have the most happy, well fed, and rested baby. Cynthia's advise is very easy to understand, simple to execute, and you quickly see a result by having a content baby. This book has made me a better mom as well. I myself have learned so much by simply understanding the key fundamentals of child development. By feeling secure in what I am doing, I am calm and able to listen & watch my child, understand his needs & how to best communicate with him. If you follow Cynthia's very simple guidelines, your child will naturally becomes a wonderful sleeper & as a result everyone in the family is much happier! I highly recommend this book!
Miss Phyllis as her pupils who love her call her may not say what you want to hear in this book but its what we need to hear. Honed by her wisdom and commitment and love of the generations of children that have flowed thru her historic Echo Park dojo. Phyllis is saving our lives and the life of our son by putting us on a path that will carry him and us right into the school system - lessons we have learned as must carry
thru. The respect she communicate to each child is heroic, profound and even makes practical sense - we MUST follow suit. PG 179 - Be 100% with your child every moment you are together - WOW - how often I have let that rule slip. Or in another chapter - given our busy bang bang lives when I return from a working trip that has taken me away for weeks - when I return I want to shower my son with love and gifts and all of
it rooted in my guilt of having been gone - we must provide the constants for our children - it can be tough love from Mis Phyllis - but we need that more than hugs and smiles and our children will carry her lessons into bright and productive teen and early adult lives. VIVA PHYLLIS - a life save of a book - get it NOW! Richard, Chelo & Mountain Montoya (Richard is playwright/film maker living in LA- Chelo is an art professor )
My children were actually raised in their care until kindergarten and I am fortunate because if it. They potty-trained without issue, are extremely communicative and still love to visit the Ankas until this day. They were in high school and middle school now and they still prepare strictly healthy meals for themselves. I've read this book and passed it out as presents to friends. People who say, "this isn't back up by research!" need to GET. OVER. THEMSELVES. These women have had children in their care for decades and parents scratch and claw to get their children spots in their daycare center. If you're looking for "research" to help you raise your kids, your problems are in the mirror. Children raised by this method are always abundantly more prepared for kindergarten. What "research" do you need beyond experience?
I happened to read the book before my child was admitted into Phyllis' day care. It is very clear and detailed, easy to understand and apply to real life. I have also been able to witness first-hand her care and attention to the children, as well as gain from the insights and advice she offers about parenting and my child's growth. She is formidable yet the sweetest, and my child adores her. Great wisdom and ideas in the book !
