I have always enjoyed Mosley books and this one is no different. This book isn't a Socrates classic but all the more a classic and it speaks to the inner drive in all of us to survive with our bare instincts and adjustment to the environment in which we reside. Albeit the suburbs, rural or urban area. I read this book in 2 days and immediately passed it on to my spouse who is not an avid reader like myself. He read this book and he told me how he actually recommended it to others. That in itself is a reason I am suggesting this book. How it impacted him. How he shared laughing out loud, or shaking his head in agreement with the character or the setting as if he was there, making himself a part of the story. Isn't that the main goal of an author? To capture you and bring you along for the ride? I actually purchased paperback copies for our adult son and nephew. A great book to my already extensive Mosley collection.Product details

The Tempest Tales Walter Mosley Ty Jones 9781436186209 Books Reviews
I enjoyed reading this book and it's a departure from Mr. Mosley other novels that I've read. The characters are interesting and delightful. The subject matter sparks thought and discussion. Like so many of the Mosley novels, I would love to see this novel made into a movie. I pick Will Smith or Mike Epps to play Tempest!
Excellent Condition
The story was different. A thought-provoking.story about heaven, hell, & free will.
I love Walter Mosley's books. Have never been disappointed. He is the best all-around writer I have come upon. I can't put down his detective and science fiction books; I want to finish them in one day! Read one of his novels and you will be hooked!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book about a man questioning why he had to go to hell. It is full of things to make you laugh at the intellect of a person not wanting to go to hell who honestly just doesn't get it. Walter Mosley is a great author with many whom writes many interesting tales to stimulate your mind. I have bought this book at least for 5 different people whom laughed their heads off at the antics of the major character attempts to avoid going to hell. Can you say someone in constant denial that lived to fight another day. You will really enjoy and laugh at the occurrences contained in this novel.
I like this book for what it is; the concept is thought-provoking, and offers a interesting perspective. But it also left me wanting. It's too short in my opinion. I would have liked to have known more about what Tempest was doing in this new "life"; I wanted to know more about why this specific angel was sent. To me the character of Tempest didn't develop enough; he had plenty of flaws but not enough redeeming qualities. He was too much one way. I would have liked to have seen him develop more. The book overall is pretty good. I would recommend it to a friend.
I was torn about how to rate this book. Then I realized the reason for my hesitation had nothing to do with the writing or content, but rather the deep sadness I felt when I finished reading it. I wanted a less conflicted conclusion.
The Tempest Tales made me think deeply about my belief system and about how my fellow travelers on the planet negotiate their own deeply personal compasses. These stories made me think about not just sin and justice, but race, morality, compromise and more.
Most important, while reading the Tempest Tales I felt an emotional tugging for the difficult positions of all the characters - even the devil - lol.
So, using my gauge that a great book is one that causes me to think and evaluate - I have to say this is a great book. Not nearly as fun to read as many of the other Mosley tales, but definitely provocative.
